The client need
The Gordon needed an international student recruitment film that could appeal across different markets while promoting Geelong as a welcoming place to study. The film needed to show practical training, supportive teachers, small class sizes, student lifestyle and the facilities that help students build real career pathways.
What I created
I created a promotional student story film built around three international students: Yakubu Daffi in nursing, Bo Li in commercial cookery and Jessica Olpindo in laboratory technology. Their stories were woven together to show different motivations for studying at The Gordon, from finding a new career and starting a business to building confidence and becoming more independent.
The approach
The project began with interview conversations and story development to identify the strongest personal themes for each student. I shaped the script around their own words and experiences, then brought the three stories together into one flowing narrative that could speak to a broad international audience.
The visual approach combined Geelong lifestyle footage with hands-on learning environments across nursing, cookery and laboratory technology. Skateboarding on the waterfront, commercial kitchen scenes, lab work, and a lifestyle scene at a vineyard restaurant helped the film feel active, warm and aspirational while still showing the practical skills students develop at The Gordon.
