Project Notes

The client need

The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute needed a campaign film to inspire female high school students and school leavers to consider studying maths at university. This story needed to show maths as practical, transferable and useful in high-stakes work that supports emergency services and community safety.

What I created

I created a 3-minute profile film and a 30-second social version about Cassie Pennicuik, aimed at young women considering future study and career pathways. The film showed how maths, planning and logic support project management at the Country Fire Authority, from workforce growth and fire station planning to response times, risk and operational readiness.

The approach

The film used two connected visual worlds: the CFA fire station and the indoor soccer arena. The fire station scenes showed the operational side of Cassie’s work, including firefighters, emergency equipment, project planning and response-time mapping. The soccer scenes gave the story energy, movement and a more personal thread around effort, teamwork and work-life balance.

The production focused on making maths feel active and relevant rather than abstract. Firefighters, fire trucks, maps, project documents, training scenarios and team sport helped connect planning, strategy and problem-solving to real-world outcomes that a young audience could understand quickly.
