The client need
The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute needed a campaign film to inspire female high school students and school leavers to consider studying maths at university. This story needed to show maths as practical, meaningful and connected to work that can make a positive difference.
What I created
I created a 3m 40s profile film and a 30-second social version about Dr Kylie Hollins, shaped for an audience of young women considering future study and career pathways. The film explored how maths and statistics supported Kylie’s work in marine research, environmental protection, education and community projects.
The approach
The process began with discovery conversations with AMSI, producer Kristin Marriner and Kylie to clarify the campaign message and shape the story. I wrote the script around Kylie’s own language, tone and expressions, then worked with the client and Kylie to refine it.
The film was shot across Perth, including ocean, boat, marina, school and nature locations. The production involved interstate equipment logistics, underwater filming, drone footage and planned visual transitions to help the story move smoothly between maths, marine research and community impact.
