The client need
RMIT University needed a recruitment video suite to communicate the strength and breadth of its aviation program. The project needed to show prospective students that aviation can lead into many parts of the industry, from airport operations and route planning to airline management, innovation and pilot training.
What I created
I created a main anthology-style recruitment video featuring three RMIT aviation students: Amanda, Carl and Kerry. Each story offered a different view of the aviation industry, while the full video brought them together into one clear message about connection, opportunity and future pathways.
The project also included three individual 30-second student videos:
Amanda Hewage - Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) at RMIT University
Carl Clift - Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) - Pilot Stream at RMIT University
Kerry Phillips - Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) at RMIT University
The approach
The process began with extensive student interviews to find the strongest story points, personal motivations and future ambitions. Rather than writing generic recruitment copy, I shaped the scripts around the students’ own language, expressions and way of speaking, so each voice-over felt natural and specific to them.
Once the script was approved, the production moved into voice-over recording, location planning and filming across several aviation-related environments. The shoot included student collaboration scenes at RMIT, flight training material at Point Cook, and airport footage filmed with access to Melbourne Airport, including airside and arrivals areas.
The final video was built as a three-part student anthology. Each profile stands alone, but together they show a broader picture of how RMIT Aviation prepares students for different futures across the aviation industry.
