Project Notes
The client need
The Gordon needed a short promotional video to excite prospective students in the Geelong region about studying cookery. The piece needed to make the course feel practical, appealing and hands-on, while showing the skill and care involved in professional kitchen training.
What I created
I created a 36-second TV commercial built around five core chef skills: smoking quail, decorating a gateau, filleting fish, baking bread and butchering lamb. The video was designed as a fast, single-purpose recruitment piece that made the food look delicious while showing the technical skills students could learn.
The approach
The visual approach was inspired by the soft, flattering cinematic lighting of the Netflix show Chef’s Table. Working with chefs, pastry chefs and teachers at The Gordon, we staged each dish and technique to feel precise, appetising and visually polished.
The production used cinematic lighting, turntables and carefully composed close-ups to give each skill its own moment. The result is a compact promotional film that shows hands-on training clearly, while making the course feel exciting, tactile and high quality.
